Fantastic Author. I absolutely love this book! I know this book was based on a true story so it makes it even better. The story is a civil war romance about the distance and time the characters have to endure apart. I thought the writing was fantastic and it reads at a great clip. I like this style of writing. I can actually imagine the scenarios because of the detail in every sentence. Overall, loved this read and am currently reading James Funk's next novel 'Angels Return Home'. The same can be said for this book. Descriptive sentences and a great story! I would wholeheartedly recommend both books.

"With so many characters that you instantly care about and root for, Jim Funk's novel seems to just fly by! Just as he did in his first book, "Three Rivers Form an Ocean", Mr. Funk strikes the perfect balance between engaging story and education in American history. My favorite parts of "Long Walk Home" were the many accounts of southerners - slaves and free men and women, alike - who helped Will on his return home, even though they knew the risks it could bring to themselves and their families. Both of Mr. Funk's books will appeal to a broad audience - from history buffs to those who find history more enjoyable and relate-able when presented through the eyes of a history buff (who also happens to be a gifted writer and storyteller!)."
Tom and Carolyn (Asheville, NC) writes: "The story was beautifully told and very real. It gave me real insight into the war (Carolyn) as I have never read much about it. Tommy has read a lot about the war and he thought your book was extremely well told. We both enjoy historical novels and we both do a lot of reading. It was hard for both of us to put the book down. We will recommend it to our friends." Gary (Chicago, Ill) writes: "I really enjoyed this book. It was an easy read and held my attention the whole time. I felt all of the emotions and experiences of the solders during the Civil War. It gave me a new perspective of that era. I look forward to reading any more books that Mr. Funk may write."

"This book has very good character development, makes you feel that you really know these people in the story. Descriptions of the horrors of war are excellent ...a very good read."
Andy (Denver, CO) writes:
"The descriptive writing really makes you feel you are alongside Will, Junior, Papa and the whole group through their challenges and successes. The story line is interesting and fun to read, a real page turner!"
